About the role

To support the effective implementation of Nutrition International (NI) programs in Malawi by providing day-to-day accounting, financial operations, and administrative finance support in compliance with NI policies and procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), donor rules and regulations, and statutory requirements in Malawi.

The Finance Officer serves as the primary initiator and processor of financial transactions for the Country Office and works under the technical oversight of the Regional Finance & Administration Manager or Senior Finance Officer, who provides review and approval of transactions.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational policies and GAAP.
  • Process payments, maintain general ledger records, and perform bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports and support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and grant financial management, including tracking expenditures and reporting variances.
  • Support procurement finance processes, contract financial records, and fixed asset management.
  • Assist with payroll processing, statutory filings, and internal and external audits.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, donor requirements, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Provide financial guidance to program teams and coordinate closely with regional finance stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field
  • ACCA or CPA Professional qualification
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a finance or accounting role preferably in a grant funded or NGO environment.
  • Working experience on managing Global Affairs of Canada grants, FCDO, USAID, BMGF is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with databases, an asset
  • Experience working with the NetSuite ERP
  • Experience in a national or international non-profit entity is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with remote supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Competent in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
