Europe Cares is a young and growing humanitarian organization supporting people on the move and standing up for human rights at the European external borders.
On Lesvos, we operate the community center Paréa Lesvos located within walking distance from the CCAC (or Mavrovouni refugee camp). The center offers a safe space for camp residents where they can spend time in a peaceful environment and access many recreational activities and sports, a Women Space, a cafeteria with free drinks and daily lunch, and computer classes. Our center hosts another 9 partner organizations offering a wide range of services to our visitors including MHPSS, legal support, NFI distributions, informal education and integration support.
Position Summary
Our Project Coordinator is responsible for the supervision and development of the basic needs services offered by EC in the center. You will be in charge of the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the project, the volunteers’ training and supervision, for supply management and purchasing of five of our services (solidarity café, laundry service, van shuttle, security team, community garden). You will be acting as the Vice of the Field Coordinator, in their absence.
The full-time role is based in Lesvos, Greece. The (ideal) starting date is April 2026.
Your daily tasks may involve:
Operational Supervision
- Oversee daily operations in the café (drink and lunch distribution), the security team, and laundry service;
- Supervise the daily van shuttle driven by a volunteer;
- Supervise work in the community garden, in close collaboration with the garden manager;
- Ensure adequate supplies for daily activities, manage storage, and coordinate with suppliers, including requesting quotes and managing incoming orders;
- Oversee maintenance of the center in collaboration with the Field Coordinator, identifying needs and opportunities for improvement;
- In the absence of the Field Coordinator, act as the main security focal point, including conflict moderation and de-escalation.
Volunteer Management
- Prepare weekly volunteer schedules and conduct daily morning briefings and monthly program meetings;
- Supervise volunteers’ performance during daily operations, providing guidance and feedback;
- Organize trainings for van drivers, the cafe team and the security team according to established policies and protocols.
External Coordination
- Serve as the main point of contact for external contractors and technicians supporting laundry and van shuttle operations;
- Collaborate with suppliers and manage procurement for operational needs.
Program Support & Evaluation
- Develop new ideas and areas of collaboration with the other programs supervised by the other Project Coordinator (Child Friendly Space, Women Space, social club, computer room, community engagement team);
- Discuss possible changes to the program of activities and implement them in consultation with the other Project Coordinator and Field Coordinator;
- Regularly conduct needs assessments, evaluations, and focus groups related to your areas of focus;
- Support the Field Coordinator in expense accounting.
Field Coordinator Substitution
- Substitute the Field Coordinator in their absence, including minor support of internal partners;
- Represent Europe Cares to external stakeholders during the Field Coordinator’s absence;
- Manage emergencies according to policies and protocols when the Field Coordinator is unavailable;
- Perform other relevant tasks as requested by the Field Coordinator.
What we are looking for:
- Eligible to reside and work in the EU (as a small NGO we are not able to offer assistance for visa applications);
- Able to commit for (at least) 1 year;
- Able to provide a Criminal Record Check;
- (Under-)graduate degree in a relevant field of study;
- An experienced driver with an international drivers license;
- 3-year minimum experience from humanitarian organizations, especially in Greece and Lesvos;
- 2-year minimum experience with project management, especially in coordination roles including people management tasks;
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills;
- Excellent organizational & time management skills;
- Ability to work in high-paced environment and under pressure;
- Ability to work independently and take initiative;
- Eye for detail & striving for professional excellence;
- Fluent in English & (very strong advantage) Greek. Other context relevant languages (i.e. Farsi/Arabic/Amharic/Somali) are an advantage;
