Humanitarian training is increasingly treated as a prerequisite by UN agencies before staff are approved to work as implementing-partner personnel in these contexts. In Europe, The Netherlands, home to major EU humanitarian coordination structures and the ICC in The Hague, has a strong culture of formal humanitarian training as part of NGO duty-of-care policy. Our Teaching Approach

Our humanitarian training is delivered through a blended approach: structured reading and video modules you complete at your own pace, followed by scenario-based exercises that mirror real emergency decision-making. Facilitators are practitioners with field-level humanitarian experience rather than academics only, so discussion stays grounded in what actually happens during a response rather than theory alone. Each cohort works through at least one full simulated crisis scenario before completion. Cohorts are kept small enough that facilitators can give individual feedback on the final scenario exercise rather than a generic pass/fail mark.

The Certificate course suits professionals who need a focused introduction within a single budget cycle. The Diploma is the most commonly chosen option for those who want applied, case-study depth without committing to a full year of study. The Post-Graduate Diploma is best suited to those pursuing a formal qualification to support promotion into program management or specialist roles.

Assessment & Certification

Participants are assessed through a combination of short quizzes after each module, a written case-study assignment applying the material to a real or simulated crisis scenario, and a final online examination. A pass mark of 60% across all components is required to receive the certificate.

Humanitarian training is most often a prerequisite for field-facing roles rather than a standalone career qualification, but it directly supports movement into:

Course Materials & Ongoing Support

Enrolled participants get access to a private online learning portal containing all video modules, downloadable readings and the scenario exercises used during the course. Materials remain accessible for 12 months after enrollment, so you can revisit specific modules — such as the safety and security content — after completing the course, not only during it. A facilitator responds to questions posted in the course discussion forum within two business days.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Every participant who completes the course requirements receives a Strategia Netherlands certificate, recognized by NGOs, UN agencies and donor organizations.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. The Certificate course fee can be split into two installments; Diploma and Post-Graduate Diploma fees can be split into monthly installments across the course duration on request.

Is the certificate internationally recognized?

Our certificate is issued by Strategia Netherlands and is recognized by the NGOs, UN agencies and government partners we work with. It is not a government-accredited academic qualification, and organizations with specific accreditation requirements should confirm those directly.

Do I get lifetime access to the course materials?

Materials remain accessible for 12 months after enrollment, which covers the full course period plus a substantial review window afterward. Extended access beyond 12 months can be arranged on request.
